And'Art (Views)
And’Art (meaning views in Arabic) was a week long residency and a one day festival between Moroccan and International artists and musicians, which Jaskirt Dhaliwal participated in during October 2009. Organised by not for profit organisation Terre Sans Frontiere, And'Art gave Artists and Musicians a chance to express their views and identities around the immediate environment of Tangier, Morocco.
Tangier is a place of transition. During this entire city’s history travelers have been arriving from Europe or Africa and accost here leaving their past for an uncertain future.
Tangier is also a city where the industrial part is developing day after day. Part of the city is following this trend, while another part is still stuck in an old and traditional way of Moroccan living.
As one of the documenting photographers, I tried to capture these two themes of Tangier, as well as taking portraits of the participants and documenting the And'Art festival and residency.
Inspired by working with artists from different mediums and styles, Jaskirt has displayed some of the images shot on 120 film with the film edge because of the traditional style of working by fellow artist in residence and photographer Thea Panter.
