mac labs
Jaskirt Dhaliwal participated in mac labs, a five day artist residency at the newly refurbished Midlands art centre, due to re-open May 2010.
As part of mac labs Jaskirt was developing her skills as an artist and practitioner by creating new work about Birmingham.
This includes 2 videos (below), an interactive website survey (below) and a series of photographs (coming soon).
-- Mac is shaping up to be a hub of creativity and importance for Birmingham and so the privilege of being some of the first people to have access and work in the centre before it's opening was a significant event. Jaskirt thus decided to document this by shooting portraits of all those involved with mac labs and to ask them what they thought of Birmingham. However instead of using text with her images, she has experimented by using audio clips instead.
The video is a work in progress, and will be completed next week. It has been uploaded for presentation purposes as part of mac lab.
Music by Killer Yogi
-- A video made by Jaskirt Dhaliwal about the city of Birmingham, UK, as part of her artist residency at mac during April 2010. Inspired by the artist residency in Tangier and the work created their as part of And'Art, Jaskirt has collaborated with Birmingham based band Killer Yogi, who made this instrumental music specifically about Birmingham too.
The video is a work in progress, and is yet to be finished. It has been uploaded for presentation purposes as part of mac labs.
-- Jaskirt also extended her practice by working and collaborating with Dane Watkins to make a website with her photographs of Birmingham.

Jaskirt will be aiming to update and create a new flash site like this in the year ahead.
